InVision Participates in Virtual Highmark Walk
Earlier in March, we announced that we would again be one of 250 nonprofits participating in this year’s Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. Since that announcement, a lot has happened surrounding the escalation of the coronavirus pandemic: Schools have closed; sports seasons are suspended; nearly all scheduled events for the foreseeable future are cancelled or postponed; and most of the United States is working from home, all in an effort to “flatten the curve.”
Highmark Walk officials, in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) evolving recommendations, have decided to modify the Pittsburgh Walk to an online-only fundraiser and virtual walk this year. The decision was made with Walk participants’ safety in mind as well as the safety of walk volunteers and our broader community members.
How can you still show your support?
We will continue our efforts to raise money for the people we support through the Highmark Walk website because we will still have a critical need for those donations moving forward. If you are able, we would appreciate your sustained monetary support through these uncertain times. Anything helps! We know these unprecedented times are worrisome and have turned some peoples' worlds upside down. If you have already donated and need a refund, please contact InVision Foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Although Allegheny County was put under a stay-at-home order, walking, hiking, and running in your neighborhood is still being recommended, as long as you keep your distance from others. You can show your support by tagging us in the pictures of you exercising on social media (@InVisionHS on Facebook and Twitter).
We still hope to get InVision t-shirts and/or Highmark Walk t-shirts to those who supported us in this fundraising effort. Highmark officials will provide us and our participants further details on the changes regarding fundraising incentives, t-shirt distribution, and donation deadlines in the coming days and weeks.
The most important idea that we’re stressing is the fact that the people we support can benefit from your donation now more than ever. So, regardless of what you may get in return, the people we serve would be incredibly appreciative of your support.
That said, we want to thank our amazing followers so much. Your support to this point has been remarkable. Thank you for sticking with us during this uncertain time!
